Tekki's mother and
father thought that Tekki should still memorize important things
like his own phone number. His Father said that when he was a boy,
he had to learn lots of numbers, but Tekki said he would be OK because
he took his electronic
pocket organizer with him wherever he went.
One day Tekki went
outside to fly a new kite. The wind was blowing swiftly. Tekki had
to put down his electronic pocket organizer and use both hands to
get his kite into the air. Then the wind blew so hard that the kite
string broke. Tekki had to
run down the sidewalk just to keep his kite in sight. The kite flew
and flew, but as
it flew it drifted lower and lower. Tekki ran and ran, and soon
the kite was low enough that Tekki could almost reach it. Just then,
a gust of wind blew the kite back up toward the sky, but Tekki jumped
up and caught it.
Tekki was now a very
happy little boy because his kite was back in his hands, but there
was now one thing that was not in his hands; his pocket organizer!
Tekki looked around and saw that he was in an unfamiliar neighborhood.
None of the houses looked like any that he recognized. He tried
walking down one street and then another, but soon it was clear
that he was completely lost.
Tekki began to cry.
Fortunately a nice old lady saw him crying, and asked him if he
was lost. When Tekki said that he was, the nice old lady asked him
if he knew his telephone number. "I will call that number and tell
your parents where you are," she said. Tekki reached for his electronic
pocket organizer, and then he started to cry again. He had left
it on his porch.
Just then Tekki's
parents drove up in their car. They had been very worried, and had
searched nearby streets until they found him, but Tekki knew that
he was very lucky that they had found him so quickly. From then
on, he made sure that he kept his own address and his own telephone
number in his own memory where it would
never be misplaced.
